Honda Shine 100 DX Unveiled In India, Bookings To Open On August 1

Honda Celebrates 25 Years in India with New Shine 100 DX: A Premium Commuter with Digital Flair

New Delhi, July 23, 2025 – Commemorating a quarter-century of operations in India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has unveiled two new motorcycles, signaling its continued commitment to the Indian market. Among the anniversary announcements is the highly anticipated Honda Shine 100 DX, a premium variant that builds on the success of the popular Shine 100 series. Bookings for the Shine 100 DX, alongside the new CB125 Hornet, are set to open on August 1, 2025, with deliveries to follow.

The new Shine 100 DX retains the fundamental strengths that have made the ‘Shine’ nameplate a household name, but introduces a host of cosmetic enhancements and feature additions to give it a more refined and premium commuter identity. While the standard Shine 100 has already garnered impressive sales of over 3 lakh units in just 12 months, the DX variant aims to sit at the top of the range, likely priced around ₹76,000 (ex-showroom).

Enhanced Aesthetics and Premium Touches

The styling of the Shine 100 DX leans distinctly towards a more premium commuter look. It features a new, redesigned headlamp unit that integrates a dash of chrome across its housing, lending a sophisticated touch to the front fascia. The bodywork showcases subtle sculpting around the wide fuel tank, which prominently displays the Honda logo, hinting at a more substantial presence on the road.

Additional visual highlights include a matte-finished grab rail and an all-black engine casing, elegantly contrasted by a chrome-finished muffler cover, adding to its premium appeal. Graphics on the body panels offer a visual lift, ensuring the DX stands out from its regular counterpart. The long, well-padded seat is designed for superior daily ride comfort for both the rider and pillion, a crucial aspect for a commuter motorcycle in India.

The motorcycle is offered in four appealing paint options: Pearl Igneous Black, Imperial Red Metallic, Athletic Blue Metallic, and Geny Gray Metallic. Lighting duties are handled by a reliable DC halogen headlamp, powered by a 12V, 3Ah battery.

Digital Instrumentation and Smart Features

A significant upgrade in the Shine 100 DX is the inclusion of a digital LCD instrument cluster. This modern display provides riders with essential information at a glance, including:

  • Real-time mileage: Helping riders optimize fuel consumption.
  • Estimated range (distance to empty): Alleviating range anxiety and aiding trip planning.
  • Service due alert: Ensuring timely maintenance and prolonged vehicle life.

For enhanced safety, the Shine 100 DX also incorporates a side-stand engine cut-off system, a vital feature that prevents the engine from starting or continuing to run if the side stand is down, thus preventing accidental tip-overs.

Proven Powertrain and Refined Dynamics

Underneath its refreshed exterior, the Shine 100 DX utilizes the familiar and reliable 98.98 cc single-cylinder engine. This fuel-injected unit is compliant with OBD2B norms, ensuring environmental responsibility. It produces a maximum power of 7.3 hp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 8.04 Nm at 5,000 rpm, offering a balanced performance suitable for urban commutes and light highway duties.

The engine is mated to a smooth four-speed transmission and benefits from Honda’s proprietary eSP (Enhanced Smart Power) system. This technology is designed to reduce internal friction and optimize combustion, leading to improved performance and superior fuel efficiency, a key selling point for commuter motorcycles.

The Shine 100 DX is built on a robust diamond-type chassis. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and 5-step adjustable twin shock absorbers at the rear, ensuring a comfortable ride over varied Indian road conditions. Braking is managed by drum brakes at both ends (130 mm at the front and 110 mm at the rear), complemented by Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS), which enhances stopping power and safety by distributing braking force to both wheels.

The commuter motorcycle rides on 17-inch tubeless tyres, offering puncture resistance and better stability. It provides a comfortable 168 mm of ground clearance and has a kerb weight of 103 kg, making it agile and easy to handle. The seat stands at a height of 786 mm off the ground and measures 677 mm in length, while the wheelbase extends to 1,245 mm. The fuel tank can hold 10 litres of fuel, ensuring a decent range between refills. The overall dimensions of the motorcycle are 1,955 mm (length), 754 mm (width), and 1,050 mm (height).

With its blend of enhanced aesthetics, digital features, reliable performance, and Honda’s trusted engineering, the new Shine 100 DX is poised to further strengthen the ‘Shine’ brand’s legacy in the Indian commuter segment, offering a more premium and feature-rich option for discerning buyers.
